Story

Deep in the mountains of Yoshino, a house of a man who spent his life facing wood.

吉野の山奥で、木と向き合い続けた人の家。

At night, step onto the veranda, and true darkness is there. No streetlights, no sound. Only starlight and the breathing of the mountains.

KURASHI YOSHINO is a small mountain lodge nestled deep in the mountains of Yoshino.

Yoshino is known for its cherry blossoms, but where this house stands, there are almost no tourists. Only forests of cedar and cypress, the sound of water flowing through the valley, and deep, deep silence.

This house was not born as an accommodation.

Once, a woodworker lived here.

Born in the land of Yoshino cedar, his family had worked with wood in these mountains for three generations.

He could have taken over the large sawmill, but he chose not to. Instead, he built a small workshop alone and chose to carefully continue only the work within his own reach.

In the morning, enter the mountain and check on the trees. At midday, run the plane across wood in the workshop. At night, soak in the hinoki bath and think about what to make tomorrow.

That repetition continued for decades.

What he made were not special works of art. Shelves, chairs, boxes, spoons. Only things used in daily life.

Yet the wood that passed through his hands somehow carried a warmth. "When you touch it, the wood still feels alive" — many people said so, they say.

Throughout this house, things he made remain. The shoe shelf at the entrance, the small table on the veranda, the chair in the bathroom.

KURASHI did not choose to preserve this house as "an artisan's workshop."

What we inherited was the quality of time that flowed through it — a life spent facing wood and living with the mountains.

You, staying in this house now, need not make anything. Simply breathe in the scent of hinoki, gaze at the stars from the veranda, and surrender yourself to the mountain's silence.

This house is not a place to rush and accomplish things, but a place to reclaim time you can feel with your hands.

KURASHI YOSHINO gently passes on this time to the next person who lives here.
