Story

In the fields of Asuka, a house of hands that never stopped working.

飛鳥の田園で、手を動かし続けた人の家。

Through the morning mist, gaze at the sky reflected in the rice paddies. In a silence broken only by the sound of insects, the day begins, slowly.

KURASHI ASUKA is a house standing in the pastoral landscape of Asuka — where Japan began.

On this land where the ancient capital once stood, an unchanged landscape still stretches out. Terraced rice fields, the Ishibutai stone monument, the murmur of the Asuka River. The same wind that blew 1,400 years ago still passes through here.

This house was not built for tourism.

Once, a textile artist lived here.

After studying at an art university in the city, she was drawn to the colors of this land and moved here, gathering hues from the wildflowers of Asuka, dyeing threads, and weaving cloth in a small workshop.

In the distinctive earthen-floored space, indigo vats once stood in a row. By the windows, poles were set to dry threads, and in the garden, plants used for dyes still grow quietly.

She never called her work "art." She always said it was simply "an extension of daily life."

In the morning, go to the fields and pick plants. At midday, dye the threads. At night, work the loom. That repetition was the very flow of time in this house.

She never won a major prize or became famous. Yet everyone who visited this house, they say, was rendered speechless by the richness of color and air that lingered here.

KURASHI did not choose to preserve this house as "a place that was once a workshop."

What we inherited was the quality of time that flowed through it — a life lived with hands always in motion.

You, staying in this house now, need not create anything. Simply sit on the earthen floor, gaze at the garden's wildflowers, and feel the color of the wind.

This house is not a place to finish something, but a place that reminds you that daily life itself was the work of art.

KURASHI ASUKA gently passes on this time to the next person who lives here.
